Give a downed player a countdown that gets shorter every time they go down
A downed player waits to be helped, and with a fixed wait the same careless player is picked up again and again at no cost. This entry shows a countdown that pauses while help is on the way, shrinks with repeated falls, and recovers after a calm stretch.
Why this works
Falling should cost something that grows with carelessness, without ending the game for someone who had one bad moment. A countdown that shortens with repeated falls, down to a fair minimum, and counts only recent ones, rewards recovery and punishes recklessness.
When not to use it
Skip it for solo play, or when no teammate can ever reach a fallen player: the countdown then only delays the inevitable, so offer a quick restart. It also bores in fast games where waiting while down kills the pace.
