Make townspeople say different one-liners without repeating the last
A guard who says the same sentence three times in a row breaks the mood faster than any bug. Random choice repeats by chance, and a simple "not the last one" rule still favours some lines. Here is how every line is used before any is heard again.
Why this works
People notice repeats, not fairness. Dealing out every line once before any comes back, like cards from a deck, keeps the variety even, and a small fix at the seam stops the last line of one round from opening the next.
When not to use it
Wrong for lines that must come in order, such as a story told in steps, and for characters with only a line or two. Use a fixed sequence for the first, and accept plain repeats or add more lines for the second.
