Stop players from repeating a failed persuasion until something has changed

If a failed attempt can be tried again and again, or the game is reloaded until the roll works, the check means nothing. Here is how to show the real chance, make a reload give the same result, and open the door again only when the situation has truly improved.

Why this works

Retrying until the dice fall right turns every risk into a certainty. Tying the roll to the save and locking the try until the player is truly better off keeps failure meaningful and sends them off to improve instead of to wait.

When not to use it

Wrong for light chatter and low stakes, where a lock only annoys. Let those be retried freely, and keep the lock for choices that carry a real price or change the story.
