Grow a vine or root along a winding path at an even speed

In a puzzle where a plant grows toward a goal, the line should creep forward smoothly. Revealing one corner point per tick makes long stretches race and short ones crawl, and the tip can show a tiny flick at each bend. Here is how to draw exactly the right length at any moment.

Why this works

A growing tip should travel the same distance each second, whatever the bends in its way. Measuring progress along the path itself, rather than counting corners, makes a longer vine take longer.

When not to use it

Skip it when the plant should react to something, like growing toward light or around the player. Then the path isn't fixed in advance, and you must grow it step by step from the tip.
