Make resting birds fly off when touched and settle back one by one
Birds on a branch in the corner of a puzzle screen make it feel alive, and a tap near them should startle them. If they all leave in the same frame they look like a sticker peeling off; if they come back by teleporting, the magic is gone. Here is a schedule that spreads the reaction and the return.
Why this works
Where a bird is depends only on how long ago the scare happened, so nothing has to be remembered from frame to frame. Pausing, slow devices and replays then all show the same flock, and the wave of reactions looks natural.
When not to use it
Not for birds that the player steers, hunts or that react to many different things at once. Their path then depends on the player's choices, not on one fixed scare, so keep a running position for them instead.
