Two players start a shared gesture from too far apart and the hands never meet
A handshake, fist bump or high five needs two bodies close enough that both arms reach. If the animation just plays, the hands pass through air or one body is dragged across the floor. Here is how to let both step toward each other fairly, and what to do when one cannot move.
Why this works
The gesture needs the hands to meet, so what counts is the gap that the two arm lengths cannot cover. Sharing the walk by reach gives the shorter arms the longer way, and when one cannot move, the other takes it all, so the gesture never starts from nothing.
When not to use it
Skip it when the gesture can happen from any distance, such as a wave or a cheer, and when players would find it rude to be moved by the game. Then let them walk up on their own and show a hint.
