A player's connection drops mid-jump and their body hangs in the air for everyone
When messages from a player stop, the others see a frozen body in whatever pose it had, often the middle of a leap, and sometimes it stays for minutes. Players think they are looking at a cheater. Here is a staged way to show that someone is gone and to let the body leave the scene calmly.
Why this works
Silence has stages: a short gap is lag, a longer one is a problem, and a long one is gone. Showing each honestly lets people see at a glance that someone left, rather than suspect a cheater, and keeping the body a while makes a return look smooth.
When not to use it
Wrong in a turn-based or slow game, where a long silence is normal and a ghost would only confuse. Also wrong when the others must not wait for a lost player: remove the body at once and let an AI take its place.
