How many testers saw the plot twist coming, and how early?

A twist that half the table predicted three chapters ago does not twist. This entry shows how to ask testers for guesses while they play, how to ignore the "I knew it" they claim afterwards, and how to read the result.

Why this works

Hindsight rewrites memory, so everyone claims they saw it coming. Only a guess written down before the reveal is honest evidence of what the clues gave away. Splitting early guessers, late ones and the surprised shows whether the hints are too loud or too quiet.

When not to use it

Writing theories down can itself change how people play, making them hunt for clues. For a story meant to be taken in without suspicion, test with a separate group that does not write notes.
