Find the hidden camp from two towers that each report only a compass bearing
Two outposts each know which way a signal comes from, but not how far. Together they pin down the spot. Here is the intersection, with the cases that give no answer: lines that never meet, and lines that only meet behind the towers.
Why this works
One direction only says which line the camp lies on, and two lines from different places cross once. So two sightings give a spot. The crossing must lie ahead of both towers, otherwise the readings contradict each other and no honest answer exists.
When not to use it
Poor when the bearings are noisy or the towers stand almost in line with the camp, because tiny errors then move the answer far away. Use a third tower and take the middle of the crossings, or just report the area.
