How many sittings does it take players to finish a long campaign?

Raw event logs have no sessions in them, only moments. This entry shows how to cut them into sittings, how to treat a lone event, and what total play time and sitting count tell you about the real length of the campaign.

Why this works

Nobody logs when they sit down or leave, so a sitting is inferred from silence. A long enough gap means a real stop. Counting only first to last action avoids inventing play time, which would add the waiting period to every sitting.

When not to use it

Guessing from silence fails for games that run on their own or are watched without input, such as idle games or long cutscenes. There silence is play. Use an explicit start and end signal if the game can give one.
