Which decisions do players take back by loading an earlier save?

A reload right after a choice is a quiet vote that the choice felt wrong, unfair or unclear. This entry shows how to link each reload to the decision it undid, so the regret rate per decision is not blurred by several loads in a row.

Why this works

Regret leaves a trace: the player undoes the last thing they did. Blaming only the latest choice, and only once, points at the decision that actually hurt instead of every harmless step before it, and keeps a frantic player from inflating the count.

When not to use it

Reloading is not regret in games where players load on purpose to try everything, or where saving is how you play. Then high numbers are curiosity. Ask players what they were looking for before changing the choice.
