How long can a mission briefing be before most players skip it?
Story before a mission is wasted if almost everyone clicks it away. The skip rate depends on length, and on whether the person has seen it before. This entry shows how to find the length where skipping takes over, using only first views.
Why this works
People skip what they already know, so a replay says nothing about the text. Only the first time shows whether the length is too much. Grouping by length then reveals the point where patience runs out, instead of one average.
When not to use it
A skipped briefing is not always too long: it may be boring, or give nothing new. And when the text carries a rule the player must know, shortening it hides the problem. Fix what it says before you cut it.
