Spielerando

Protect a freshly respawned player, but not for shooting from safety

A player who respawns in the middle of a fight is killed again before they can look. A shield helps, until players use it to shoot from safety. This entry shows a protection that ends at the right moment and a late message that must still be judged correctly.

Why this works

A shield is fair only if it protects someone who has nothing yet and ends when they strike. Judging by when the hit happened, not when its message arrived, and ending at the first attack, means nobody shoots from safety or is hurt by a delay they did not cause.

When not to use it

Skip it in modes where nobody can camp the arrival spot, or where players pick a hidden place to enter. In those, protection only invites scouting. Put the arrival where enemies cannot see it instead.
