Cast story roles among the people of a freshly generated world

When every new world has different villagers, the traitor, the healer and the guide must be given to people who suit them, each person only one role, and the same world seed must give the same cast again. Here is how to do that, and how to avoid dead ends in the draw.

Why this works

Handing out roles one at a time at random can paint you into a corner. Stepping back and trying the next person when a later role runs dry always finds a cast if there is one, and the same seed always gives the same cast.

When not to use it

Skip it when any person can play any role, so there is no corner to be painted into; a simple shuffle is enough. And if the roles must feel rare and surprising, let a failed cast change the world instead of forcing a match.
