Make some finds appear only in winter, even when winter spans the new year
Berries in summer and frozen game in winter make a calendar worth following. The catch is a season that starts in late autumn and ends in early spring, which a simple from-to check treats as impossible. And a find that switches on abruptly at midnight feels like a bug, not a season.
Why this works
A season is a stretch on a circle, not on a line, so a period that crosses the year's end is still one continuous stretch. Easing in and out also matches nature: a berry does not appear overnight, and nothing should flip on a single day.
When not to use it
Skip it when the game has no calendar or when time is skipped, sped up or set by the player, since the seasons would pass unseen. Tie finds to places or events the player can actually reach instead.
