Zoom a scope in smoothly and keep mouse aiming feeling the same

When the view zooms in on a distant animal, the same mouse movement suddenly sweeps far too much picture, and a simple blend between the two view widths seems to speed up and slow down. Here is the right way to blend the zoom and scale the aim speed.

Why this works

What we call zoom is how big things look, and that follows the width of the view in a nonlinear way. Blending by equal steps of size, not of angle, feels even, and turning the aim by the same share of the screen keeps the hand's feel.

When not to use it

Skip it when the view does not change in size, such as a top-down or side-on game, or when players set their own aim speed per zoom level and expect to match it. Offer that setting instead.
