Let players take items apart without creating a free-material machine
Craft a dagger, take it apart, get the materials back, repeat. If the numbers are a little off the player gets richer with each loop, and rounding is the usual culprit. This entry shows the rule and a check you can run over every recipe.
Why this works
Any cycle that returns even a little more than it took will be found and used. Always rounding in the game's favour, and checking every recipe for a gain, makes sure that making something and taking it apart can only cost.
When not to use it
Do not tax every breakdown when repair and reuse are the heart of the game, as in a scavenging world where nothing is wasted. Let recycling return nearly everything, but cap how often a part can be reused.
