Craft with materials from nearby chests, nearest first
Players dislike running back and forth with armfuls of material, so the workbench should see the chests around it. But which chest gets emptied first, how far may they be, and what if the workbench itself is out of reach? This entry settles it.
Why this works
Players should spend effort on choices, not on carrying. Letting the bench see what is near, with the closest used first, saves the walking, and a plan shown before it is used keeps the player in charge of their stuff.
When not to use it
Do not pull from chests where scarcity and hauling are the challenge, such as a survival game about carrying and storing. Reaching across the base would remove that work. Keep crafting to what the player holds.
