Spielerando

Is a hidden room found by nobody, by everybody, or by the right amount of players?

A secret that only two in a thousand players find is wasted work, and one that everyone finds is not a secret. But you can only judge it among the players who walked past it. This entry shows how to measure that and sort the secrets into sensible groups.

Why this works

Only players who came near a hidden place had a chance to find it, so the fair measure is finds among those who passed by. Counting everyone punishes secrets in far corners and says nothing about how well they hide.

When not to use it

Skip it for a secret that is meant to be known only through word of mouth or an outside puzzle, and for a game with very few players. Judge those by how the community talks about them instead.
