Prices in the shop went up with the patch: did players really get poorer?

Comparing what players own before and after a patch is unfair when the later players are simply further along. This entry shows how to compare players of the same game age and how to set their wealth against the price of a fixed shopping list.

Why this works

Wealth means little without prices, and a group of players means little if its mix of newcomers and veterans keeps changing. Comparing players at the same point in their journey, against the same shopping list, isolates what the patch did.

When not to use it

Skip it when you have very few players or no record of how far along each one is, since the groups get too thin to read. Then ask players directly, or compare a few well-known purchases by hand.
