Which crafting material holds players back, and how long does one full set of gear take?

One rare ingredient can decide how long a whole progression takes, no matter how fast the common ones come. This entry shows how to add up the hours per place where materials are found, name the bottleneck and see what changing one drop does.

Why this works

Players gather in one place at a time, and in each place they stay until the slowest thing they need there is done. So the total wait is set by the scarcest material, and speeding up an easy one changes nothing.

When not to use it

Skip it when players can buy or trade the scarce material, or can gather in several places at once, because then time at one place no longer sets the pace. Price the shortcut instead and balance that.
