After which try do players give up on a boss, and is it the same try for everyone?
The number of tries until a win hides the people who never won. This entry shows how to follow the players who are still trying at each attempt, how many of them leave right then and when a boss has started to wear people out instead of teaching them.
Why this works
Counting only the players who won flatters every boss, because the ones who gave up are missing from the sample. Asking at each try how many of those still playing leave right then shows where learning turns into wearing down.
When not to use it
Skip it for a boss that only a handful of players ever meet, since the rows are too thin to read. Watch a few players play it, or ask them, rather than trusting percentages of tiny groups.
