Spielerando

Do players enter areas in a different order than you planned, and which ones?

If a late area can be reached early, some players will, and the balance of everything after it changes. This entry shows how to count from the visit log which areas are entered too early and by how many players, without needing to know who they are.

Why this works

Your balance assumes an order, and players follow it only as far as the map forces them. Comparing the order of first visits with the plan shows how often the assumption fails, and for which area, without knowing who the players are.

When not to use it

Skip it in open games that are meant to be explored in any order. There, do not count order as a fault; instead scale the challenge to the player, so any path stays fair.
