Spielerando

A quest added in an update never appears for players who already passed that point

New content that waits for a trigger only works for players who have not walked past it yet. Everyone with an older save misses it or gets it at the wrong time in the story. Here is how to work out, on every load, what an old save may start now.

Why this works

What is available is a consequence of what has happened, not a fact worth storing. If you work it out from the story so far each time, any new rule applies to old saves at once, and nothing stored can go out of date.

When not to use it

Do not make an old save see a new quest when the world has changed so much that it would not make sense, such as a quest about a place already destroyed. Close it with a flag, or leave it for a fresh game only.
