A half-solved puzzle room loads with a stuck block and cannot be finished
The player pushes blocks, saves, and the game remembers only some of them, or an update adds a new piece. The room then loads into a state nobody can solve. Here is a rule that restores a puzzle as a whole or not at all.
Why this works
The pieces of a puzzle only mean something together, so a partial memory is worse than none: it can leave a state nobody can solve. Treating the group as one thing means it is either restored whole or begins again clean.
When not to use it
Do not reset a puzzle whose effort is the point, such as a huge build that took hours to set up. Resetting would punish the player. Let them undo single moves, or give a button that puts one piece back instead.
