A dropped connection throws the player back to the menu and costs them their place
Phones switch networks and laptops sleep, so short drops are normal, not a reason to start over. Here is how a player can slip back into the same seat shortly afterwards, without letting someone else take it or reuse an old key.
Why this works
A drop on a phone or laptop is usually a hiccup, not a decision to leave. Holding the seat briefly turns a harmless hiccup into no loss at all. A secret that changes with each use means a stolen copy is worth nothing a moment later.
When not to use it
Do not hold seats in a game where an empty place blocks others, such as a ranked match or a limited lobby. There, free the place quickly or let a stand-in take over, and let the returning player rejoin the queue.
