Pixel art flickers or shows thin lines while the camera moves

When a camera glides over pixel graphics, edges shimmer, tiles show hairline gaps and the player seems to vibrate against the background. The cause is positions between whole pixels. Here is how to round the right things at the right moment so that everything moves as one.

Why this works

Pixels cannot be drawn in between. If the camera and everything seen through it are rounded to the same whole screen steps, they move together and no gaps or shaking appear. Calculations stay exact; only the drawing is rounded.

When not to use it

Not for smooth, painted or three-dimensional art, where rounding makes motion look steppy and takes away softness. It also hurts when a pixel look is wanted only loosely, with many sizes and turns. There, let the picture move freely and filter it.
