Spielerando

A camera that jumps from room to room when the player crosses the edge

Games built from separate screens need the view to change when the player walks out of one. Done naively it flickers back and forth on the boundary, lets enemies move while the picture slides or catches the player half outside. Here are the room rule, the slide and what freezes.

Why this works

A room is a place you are in, not a number worked out from where you stand. Remembering the current room, and changing it only on a clear crossing with a pause in the world, keeps the picture from flickering at the boundary.

When not to use it

Not for worlds that are one continuous space, or for fast games where freezing everything during a slide breaks the pace. A scrolling view that follows the player suits those better. Also reconsider it if players hate losing sight of the next room.
