Give two players with the same name different names in the story

Two friends both type the same name and the story starts addressing the wrong person, or a line says the name twice. Here is how to keep names apart without renaming anyone who was already there, and the trap that appears when someone leaves.

Why this works

A story talks about people by name, so two people sharing one name makes every line unclear. The real identity stays hidden behind the name, and the name shown is fixed when someone joins, so that what the others have already read never changes under them.

When not to use it

Skip it when players are not meant to see each other's names, or when everyone plays under a role title rather than a name. Then address people by role. It also matters less in a solo game.
