Let a loud fight pull in nearby monsters, one group at a time
In an open world nobody fights alone: the noise of a fight should bring the neighbours. Too simple and every monster on the map arrives at once, too strict and noise never matters. This entry shows a noise rule that fades and arrives with a delay.
Why this works
Sound is not forever. It fades, it travels, and it reaches near things before far ones. Letting the level shrink each round, compare it with distance and let help arrive late gives the player time to react, so noise becomes a risk they can manage.
When not to use it
Skip it in small, closed arenas where every enemy is already awake, or in games where being noticed should be decided by sight alone. There, let fights stay contained and use patrol routes or lines of sight instead.
