Let a weapon break on its last hit, not before the swing
Tools that wear out are the heart of survival, yet players hate it when the club snaps and the blow they just paid for is lost, or when missed swings eat up the weapon. Here is how to count wear so it feels earned and honest.
Why this works
Players accept loss when it is fair and visible. Wear should follow what the weapon actually did, so misses cost nothing, and the final blow should still count, because the player paid for it. Showing the last chance in advance turns a breakage into a choice.
When not to use it
Skip it in games where the joy is using one favourite weapon for the whole journey, or where players would hoard tools instead of using them. Let the weapon wear down in strength slowly, or let it be repaired at a fixed place.
