Spielerando

A limited number of story rewinds, where the spent token must not come back

A rewind that restores everything also restores the rewinds used, so the player can undo forever. Here is how to take a snapshot at each decision, bring back only the story, keep the cost paid and keep track of what the player already saw.

Why this works

A rewind is worth something only if the price stays paid. So the story goes back but the count of tries left, and what the player has already seen, do not. Otherwise the token comes back with the past and undoing becomes free and endless.

When not to use it

Skip it in a story where choices are meant to be final, or if you want players to have a free way to explore every branch. Then remove the tokens, or offer an unlimited rewind with a note that it is for trying things out.
