Spielerando

One terrified party member should unsettle the rest without a runaway panic

Fear that spreads between companions makes a horror story feel alive, but the result depends on who is updated first and, done carelessly, the whole group maxes out. Here is how to spread it evenly, let a steady friend resist and keep it bounded.

Why this works

Fear passes between people by pulling them toward each other, not by adding up. If everyone moves toward the others' average, using the values from before the step, the order of seating does not matter and nobody can end up more afraid than the most afraid person was.

When not to use it

Skip it for a lone hero or a party whose members should stay independent, and when fear should be a personal story rather than a mood in the room. Then give each person their own meter and let events, not neighbours, move it.
