Spielerando

Resisting a compelling voice should get costlier each time in the same scene

A story lets the player spend willpower to refuse what a possessed friend or a cult leader demands. If every refusal costs the same, the player just refuses all night. Here is how the price climbs, what happens at zero and when it comes back.

Why this works

Pressure feels real when giving in becomes more likely the longer it lasts. A price that climbs with each refusal in one scene makes the player choose where to make a stand, and showing the price on the button keeps the choice fair.

When not to use it

Avoid it when you want the player to feel strong and free to say no, such as a hero's story about a will that cannot be bent. There, make resisting free and let the cost fall on the other side.
