Spielerando

Did the monster catch testers fairly, or before they could have known?

Being caught is part of a chase, but being caught with no sign beforehand just feels cheap. This entry checks every catch against the last warning the player got, and points at the places in your map that cheat.

Why this works

A chase feels fair when the player could have known and acted. Being caught is only fun if the loss comes from a choice, so every catch is checked for a warning that came early enough for a person to react.

When not to use it

Do not use it for a game whose whole point is sudden dread, such as a single planned jump scare, or for players with slow reactions who need a longer warning. There, change the cue for them instead of judging the map.
