Give experience by final place in a match, and share fairly when scores tie
After a multiplayer match the best place gets the most experience. Then two players end with the same score and the code gives one of them first place by accident, or both get first place and the second place's reward is never paid. This entry shows how to number the places and share the rewards of a tie.
Why this works
A tie means several players earned the same standing, so they should split the prizes of the places they jointly fill. Counting only who is strictly better makes the order independent of the list, and sharing keeps the total paid out exactly what was promised.
When not to use it
Skip it when a single winner must be named, as in a final or a prize you cannot split. Then play a deciding round or use a clear tie-break such as earlier finish, and tell players the rule beforehand.
