Spielerando

Find which lies told to different factions can come out

Telling one faction one thing and its rival another is a classic strategy move, and the story then needs a scandal that is possible, not random. Here is a ledger that records what each side was told and names exactly the contradictions that can reach each other.

Why this works

A scandal lands hard only when the player can see how it could have happened. A lie can come out only where news can travel, so tying the exposure to who talks to whom makes the risk fair, and keeps the game from punishing the player for nothing.

When not to use it

Skip it when your story wants surprise betrayals or a spy who learns everything, because there the ledger rules out what you want to happen. Let the story decide who knows, and keep the ledger for games about careful scheming.
