Spielerando

Show the messages of who defeated whom in order, even when they arrive mixed up

The list of defeats on the side of the screen sometimes shows the revenge before the first defeat. This entry shows how to keep the order with a short wait for a missing message, and what to do when a message never comes.

Why this works

Order matters more than speed for a story told line by line. A short wait lets the missing piece catch up, and a firm deadline keeps one lost message from freezing the list. A piece that comes too late is dropped, because a wrong order misleads more than a gap.

When not to use it

Skip it when messages are cheap and each one stands alone, like a chat of independent remarks, or when the messages must never be lost. Then show them as they come, or use a connection that guarantees delivery.
