A friend joins a shared quest halfway and either gets nothing or everything
Shared quests need two kinds of progress: what the group has done and what each person has done. Mix them up and a latecomer collects a full reward for one step, or the group loses progress every time someone leaves.
Why this works
Progress belongs to the people who did the work, not to whoever is online. Keeping each person's share under their own name makes the group total stay put when someone leaves, and a minimum share makes a reward mean you actually helped.
When not to use it
Not suited to a quest that is a shared moment, like a boss fight everyone must be present for, or to a game that wants every visitor rewarded to keep things friendly. Then pay all who were there, and skip the share.
