Spielerando

Two players grab the last items from a shared chest in the same instant

If both clients are told the chest still holds something, both walk away with it and the game now owns items that did not exist. Here is how the server settles a tie, hands out what is left, and keeps one player from always winning.

Why this works

Whoever holds the only copy of the truth must settle every claim, because two screens can both believe an item is still there. Granting what is really left, in an order that rotates, means nothing is created from thin air and nobody always wins.

When not to use it

Needless for a single-player game, a chest only one person can open, or a game where grabbing quickly is itself the contest. In a race for loot, let speed decide and say so openly.
