Make food you find lying around already partly spoiled

Food that was dropped days ago should not look as fresh as food made a minute ago. And when old and new food are put together in one stack, the result must not become a loophole that cleans up rotten meat. Here is how to age finds honestly and what a merged stack is worth.

Why this works

Time should leave a trace on everything, including what nobody touched. Letting found food carry the age it earned, and letting mixing only ever average it, keeps spoilage honest and closes the trick of making old food new by blending it.

When not to use it

Skip it in a game where food is only a number on a bar, or where cooking and storing is not a theme. There, spoilage is just bookkeeping that annoys; keep all food fresh and make hunger the pressure.
