Spielerando

Open locked containers with a chance that depends on skill and a jam when you fail

If a lock can be tried again and again for free, it is only a delay, and if one failure ends everything, nobody tries. A lock that fights back, with limited tools and a short lock-out, turns it into a decision. The odds should rise with skill but never become certain.

Why this works

A lock should be a choice with a price, not a wall. Skill shifts the odds but never to certainty, a failure costs something real, and a jam that costs nothing extra stops the player from being punished twice for one mistake.

When not to use it

Skip it when opening locks is the main activity or when many locks stand in a row, since the dice make it a chore. Use a short puzzle or a key hunt instead, so the player's own effort decides.
