Let the player win back the crafting materials they dropped on dying

Dying in a hard stage should hurt, but losing forty minutes of gathered ore to one mistimed jump makes people quit. A bag left where they fell gives a second chance. This entry handles the awkward cases: dying again on the way back, and dying with empty pockets.

Why this works

Loss only teaches when there is a way back. A bag at the place of death turns a punishment into a small errand, and keeping just one makes the risk real. Leaving it alone after an empty death avoids punishing the player for having nothing.

When not to use it

Skip the bag in short, forgiving games where dying costs nothing anyway, or where the place of death is unreachable, such as over a pit. There, keep materials with the player or return them at the last safe spot instead.
