Craft something mid-fight and get fair materials back if you are hit

Bandaging, lighting a torch or assembling a barricade takes several turns, and the materials must be safe from other uses meanwhile. If the work is cut short, what comes back? This entry answers with a rule that is neither all-or-nothing nor a free refund.

Why this works

Work in progress is a bet, and a fair bet returns what was not yet used. Taking the materials at the start stops double spending, and giving back the unfinished share makes an interruption hurt without wiping out everything the player put in.

When not to use it

Skip it when crafting only happens in safe places, or when the item is so cheap that tracking leftovers is more bother than it is worth. Then craft instantly outside a fight and forbid it during one.
