Make sure a choice never shows only options the player cannot pick
Each option on its own has a fair requirement, but together they can lock the player out of every answer in some situations. Here is the search over situations that finds such a menu and shows the path that leads there.
Why this works
Each option can be reachable on its own and still every one can be shut at the same moment. A menu is only safe if, in every situation it can meet, at least one way stays open, so the check has to look at the situations, not at single options.
When not to use it
Wrong when a locked menu is the point, such as a puzzle door where being stuck means find another way. Then give the player a clear exit elsewhere, like going back, and make sure the story does not trap them for good.
