Let the world remember a past choice without nagging

Players love it when a character mentions what they did hours ago, and hate it when every character does so in every scene. Here is how to pick the single best reference for the moment and how long to leave it alone afterwards.

Why this works

A world that remembers feels alive, but one that keeps reminding feels like a recap. Letting the biggest recent deed speak, only now and then, and never twice for the same thing, makes the memory land instead of nag.

When not to use it

Wrong for a short game or one with few choices, where every callback is welcome and a limit just hides your work. Let them all speak there, and keep the careful spacing for long stories with many remembered deeds.
