How long does a chapter take a pair compared with a team of four?
A chapter planned for one length of time takes different groups very different times, and groups that change size halfway muddy any average. This entry shows how to compare group sizes fairly, which middle value to use, and when a size has too little data to speak for.
Why this works
Groups that change size mid-chapter belong to neither size, so mixing them in muddies both. Judging by the typical run and showing the plan beside it makes a number mean something, and one forgotten dinner cannot spoil it.
When not to use it
Skip it when the length of a chapter depends mainly on choices rather than on how many people play, or when most runs are unfinished. Then compare by route taken, or ask why people quit before the end.
