Make a camp's talk fit how many survivors are really left
A line like "everyone is still here" is wrong when only two people are left, and a list of eight names is awkward when it should just be a number. Here is how to word the roll call for one, two, a few or many, without counting the speaker or the same person twice.
Why this works
A line about the group must follow the group. Building the sentence from the list of who is left, with a fixed rule for how many names to show, avoids writing a version for every size and avoids a speaker counting themselves.
When not to use it
Skip it when the moment calls for a hand-written line, such as a funeral after a key death; a built sentence sounds cold there. Also in languages where grammar bends heavily around names, write fixed lines for the few sizes you need.
