A wide room scrolls with every step of the hero instead of only at the edges
In a room wider than the screen, a view that is glued to the hero makes the background slide constantly, which tires the eyes and makes clicking on things harder. Here is the rule that lets the hero walk freely in the middle and moves the picture only when needed.
Why this works
A picture that moves with every step tires the eye and shifts the things the player is trying to click. Letting the hero roam freely in the middle and moving the view only when the hero reaches the edge keeps the picture calm and every object where it was.
When not to use it
It is the wrong choice in fast action where the player must see far ahead, such as a runner or a shooter; the hero reaches the edge before the view reacts. Keep the hero near the middle with a view that leads in the direction of travel.
