A bank of watching cameras should switch to the one that sees the player, without flicker

In a game where you watch through cameras, or something watches you, the screen has to show the camera that actually has someone in view. Switching on and off at the edge of every view looks nervous. Here is a way to choose that stays calm and says when nobody sees anything.

Why this works

Picking a camera is a choice between steadiness and accuracy. Staying on the current one while it still roughly sees the player, and switching only when it truly loses them, stops two cameras at the edge of their views from swapping every moment.

When not to use it

Do not use it when the player should be the one who chooses the feed, as in a game about operating the monitors. The automatic switching takes that choice away. Also avoid it if many cameras see the player at once and the story needs a particular one.
